‘He’s still a fan’ – Slovan Bratislava boss can’t wait to unleash Rangers cult hero son on Celtic in Champions League clash
David Horejs eager to see Adam play against Celtic, Artur Boruc and ‘Old Firm’
Slovan Bratislava boss David Horejs is relishing the prospect of watching his son, Adam, play against Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers.
Adam Horejs, 24, joined the Slovakian champions in June after leaving Rangers, where he spent two years between 2019 and 2021.
The attacking midfielder, who is still fondly remembered by some Rangers fans, could now face Celtic in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, with the first leg taking place in Glasgow on July 20.
And David Horejs, who is also the sporting director at Slovan Bratislava, admits he is excited about the prospect of seeing his son play against the Scottish champions.
“I’m really looking forward to the game,” he said. “It’s going to be a great experience for Adam and for me.
“He’s still a Rangers fan, but he’s also a professional footballer and he’ll be doing his best to help Slovan Bratislava win.
“I know it’s going to be a tough game, but I’m confident that we can get a good result.”
Adam Horejs made 15 appearances for Rangers during his time at Ibrox, scoring one goal.
He was part of the Rangers team that won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, but he left the club after falling out of favor with manager Steven Gerrard.
Horejs has since established himself as a key player for Slovan Bratislava, and he has helped the club to win the Slovak Super Liga title in each of the last two seasons.
He is now looking forward to testing himself against Celtic, who are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland.
“It’s going to be a big challenge, but I’m excited about it,” he said. “I’ve played against some big teams in the past, but Celtic are one of the biggest.
“I’m going to give it my all and I’m sure my teammates will do the same.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re confident that we can get a good result.”
David Horejs is also looking forward to the game, and he is confident that his son can make a positive contribution.
“I know Adam is going to be excited to play against Celtic,” he said. “He’s a very good player and I’m sure he’ll show everyone what he can do.
“I’m confident that he can make a positive contribution to the team and help us get a good result.”
The first leg of the Champions League qualifier between Celtic and Slovan Bratislava will take place at Celtic Park on July 20, with the second leg taking place in Bratislava on July 27.
