Trump faces 37 charges, including willful retention of national defense information
Trial scheduled for May 20, 2024, just months before presidential election
Former President Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that stem from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into the handling of classified documents.
The indictment, which was unsealed on Friday, charges Trump with 13 counts, including solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, and obstruction of justice.
Trump is also facing 37 federal counts in a separate indictment, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and obstruction of justice.
The trial for the classified documents case is scheduled for May 20, 2024, just months before the presidential election.
