Pope Francis Clears Way for Italian Teenager to Become First Millennial Saint

Second Miracle Attributed to Venerable Carlo Acutis

Vatican, May 23, 2024

In a momentous announcement that has sent ripples of joy through the Catholic world, Pope Francis has authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to recognize a second miracle attributed to the late Venerable Carlo Acutis, opening the way for his canonization as the first saint of his generation.

Acutis, a young Italian who died of leukemia at the age of 15 in 2006, was known for his deep faith and unwavering devotion to the Eucharist. He was also a gifted computer programmer who created a website dedicated to cataloging Eucharistic miracles around the world.

The Vatican announced that the second miracle attributed to Acutis is the healing of a Brazilian boy from a severe and life-threatening pancreatic disease. The boy's recovery occurred after his parents prayed for Acutis' intercession.

Pope Francis has expressed his deep admiration for Acutis, calling him an "example of virtue and holiness" for young people and a reminder of the transformative power of faith. The Church hopes that Acutis' canonization will inspire a new generation of Catholics to follow in his footsteps and embrace the values of love, compassion, and service.
